JSO Presents: An Inclusive Musical Experience
The Jackson Symphony Orchestra is excited to announce its upcoming Sensory-Friendly Chamber Concert, designed to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals with sensory sensitivities, including neurodiverse audiences and those with communication, movement, and learning needs.
Taking place on November 8, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Weatherwax Hall, this concert will feature the softer wind instruments from our orchestra performing as a small chamber group. Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Flute, and Oboe will share their unique sounds with the audience in a lower-lighting setting. Admission is free, but reservations are required to ensure the best experience for all attendees.
To engage with the music on a deeper level, attendees will be encouraged to use scarves to flow with the melodies and maracas to join in on the rhythmic beats. Movement is welcomed throughout the concert, allowing everyone to enjoy the music in their own way.
JSO is dedicated to making live music accessible for everyone. The venue will offer a range of accommodations, including accessible seating, quiet rooms, medium quiet rooms, standing room, and additional viewing areas. Earplugs, headphones, fidgets, scarves, and maracas will also be available to enhance the concert experience.
“Music is for everyone, so we are so happy to offer this performance again to your Jackson community,” said Belle Coty, Director of Fund and Audience Development. “Jackson County Intermediate School District and the Torrent Center are even bussing students in for this interactive and heartwarming performance which can be felt by everyone in attendance.”
This event is made possible thanks to the generous support of Macchia Family Foundation, Blue Ox Credit Union and Mid-Michigan Autism Association.
