Join us for our Holiday Concert Aglow, a collaboration with the County Fair, where music and light blend to create magic. Enjoy an evening with a JSO string quartet playing holiday favorites all in the cozy glow of candlelight. It’s a moment to unwind, share with loved ones, and feel the holiday spirit in a way that’s both comforting and special.

Looking for a festive holiday experience? Join us on Friday before the performance, for Cork & Keys, a social piano class led by instructor Marie Vavro. Enjoy a drink, light appetizers, and learn to play “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” No piano experience is needed.

It’s the perfect way to kick off the weekend before experiencing the magic of Concert Aglow!

GUEST ARTISTS

Phoebe Gelzer-Govatos
Violin

Phoebe Gelzer-Govatos, violinist, performs with a number of orchestras and chamber
ensembles throughout Michigan, including the Ann Arbor, Jackson, Lansing, and Kalamazoo symphony orchestras, and presently holds the position of principal second violin in the Adrian Symphony. In addition, she specializes in the historically-informed performance of 17th and 18th century music, playing with early music groups across the country and coaching high school and college students in baroque style and technique. Phoebe resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she maintains a private violin studio, coaches chamber music at the Rudolf Steiner High School, and likes to involve herself in creative endeavors of all kinds.

Mallory Tabb
Violin

Mallory Tabb is thrilled to serve as Quartet Manager for her second season with the JSO’s
Concerts Aglow series. Originally from the Chicago area, she has worked in Michigan as a
music educator and freelance performer since 2013. A student of psychology and music
business as well as violin, viola, and piano performance, she holds degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She has also completed advanced studies in music at Jacksonville University and Carnegie Mellon University and studied with professors from the Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, Rice University, Florida State University, and the Eastman School of Music.

Currently the Assistant Concertmaster of the Ann Arbor Symphony and a member of the Jackson Symphony since 2014, Mallory has served in principal positions and appeared as guest concertmaster and featured soloist with many orchestras throughout the US. In recent years, she has performed most often with the Detroit Opera, the Toledo Symphony, and the Ann Arbor Symphony.

Mallory is the owner and founder of Elevation Harmony, a private music studio in Ann Arbor that specializes in a holistic music education, adapting learning plans to students’ unique needs, interests, and learning styles. Mallory is trained in the Suzuki Method, is a certified Violin Technique Method Coach, and has extensive training in Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Outside of her private studio, she has experience teaching for a wide variety of music schools throughout the US including five years serving as Junior Division Coordinator for the University of Michigan String Preparatory Academy.

Mallory lives in Ann Arbor with her dogs, Dobby and Luna. When she is not teaching or
performing, she enjoys traveling, hiking, and learning more about the fascinating complexities of the human experience.

David Ormai
Violin

David Ormai is an active performer and teacher in Michigan. As a freelance violinist, he
currently performs all throughout southeast Michigan and regularly performs with the Ann Arbor Symphony and the Detroit Opera. As a dedicated teacher, David maintains a private studio of over 30 students in Ann Arbor. He holds a Bachelors degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan.

Jinhyun Kim
Cello

Jinhyun Kim is a distinguished cellist from South Korea, currently serving as Principal Cellist of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Principal Cellist with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. She is also a proud member of the Jackson Symphony and a substitute musician with the Detroit Opera and Detroit Symphony Orchestra. A core member of the mid-Michigan new music ensemble ConTempus Initiative, Jinhyun is known for her versatility and artistic excellence.

In addition to her performance career, Jinhyun is passionate about music education. She is an Adjunct Instructor of Cello at Albion College and Spring Arbor University, and a faculty member at the Flint School of Performing Arts. Certified by the Suzuki Association of the Americas, she also contributes her expertise to audition and competition panels for orchestras.

Recent highlights include a celebrated solo performance with the Livingston Symphony
Orchestra and appearances at Carnegie Hall. Her early training began in South Korea, followed by advanced studies at Michigan State University, where she earned her Masters and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees.

Jinhyun’s career has been shaped by collaborations with prominent conductors and mentors, and her performances have received acclaim from major publications. Her dedication to both performance and education continues to inspire and impact the classical music community.
